Toastmasters’ bumper public speaking contest

Athlone Toastmasters are looking forward to a bumper public speaking contest next Tuesday March 24 at 8pm in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel.  Six contestants shall battle it out to be crowned Club Public Speaking Champion 2009 and to have the honour of representing the club at the area final on Sunday April 5.

•Galway ladies football junior team play Cork in the Aisling McGing semi-final on Sunday in Mallow (3pm).The junior team has already drawn with Cork earlier in the season. In camogie, Galway face Derry in Ballinasloe (2pm) on Saturday in the Gala Intermediate Championship, while in hurling the Galway intermediate hurlers play Cork in the All-Ireland semi-final at 5pm in Portlaoise.

Western Lakes enrolment night

On Thursday January 21 anyone interested in taking up cycling from the south Mayo/north Galway area can come to the cycling centre on the Kilmaine Road, Ballinrobe, between 6.30pm and 8.30pm and sign up as Western Lakes cycling club members. A free polo shirt will be given to all members who enrol on the night.
